Import duty on gold and platinum raised in union budget 2010

 Pranab Mukherjee proposed Indian budget 2010 today. he has just finished his budget speech. Import duty on gold and platinum is raised to rs. 300 per ten gram from previous Rs. 200.

However, import duty on Rhodium (Used for polishing and coating) is reduced significantly to 2 percent from previous ten percent. This will have positive impact on Jewelry industry which largely use this metal.

Service tax proposal in Indian Budget 2010

Pranab Mukherjee, Finance Minister of India announced new proposal for Service tax in Budget India 2010. There is no major change in Service tax proposal. Service tax rate will remain same as earlier 12 percent.

However, Pranab Mukherjee did not spell the details of service tax proposal. Revenue from direct taxes will be reduced by 26 thousand crores but revenue from indirect taxes will be enhanced by 46 thousand crores.

Stock market has been responding positively to the union budget. It is up by more than 300 points at the time of writing this post. Ballabh Bhansali has responded this as a tremendous fiscal stability.

 Pranab Mukherjee, Finance Minister of India announced major relief in individual income tax in the central budget proposed today in the parliament of India for year 2010-11.

Budget India 2010

Pranab Mukherjee, Finance Minister of India has been proposing Central Budget of India right now in the Parliament of India.

He has already addressed some very important issues. He has given more emphasys on infrastructure, education, clean energy and social security to workers of unorganized sectors. He has allocated budget of rs. 1000 crore in clean energy sector.

He has announced starting project of Unique ID system.

Total fiscal deficit announced is 5.50 percent. Planned expenditure has enhanced and non planned expenditure reduced.

Akha Teej will come twice this year

There will be two Baisakh (Vaisakh) months in this year. This is because of Adhimas system in Indian lunar calendar (Panchang). Akha Teej falls on the lunar month of Baisakh. Hence, there are two days for Akha Teej or Akshay Tritiya in this year. The first day falls on April 17 and the second on May 16, 2010.
Akshay tritiya or Akha teej is largely celebrated in Jain communities.

There is a dispute between different sects of Jain community regarding this auspicious day. Some sects will be following Akha Teej on the first date i.e. April 17 and some on the second i.e. May 16.

Lord Rishabhdev, Adinath, broke his year long fast (Varshi Tap Parna) on this day in Hastinapur. Jain community celebrates this auspicious day to commemorate Parna of Lord Rishbh Dev. Large numbers of Varshi Tap Tapaswi go for Parna on this day to Palitana and Hastinapur.

Railway budget 2010 proposed

 Mamata Banerjee, Union Railway Minister has proposed Raiway budget 2010 today on February 24, 2010 in the Parliament of India.

There is no hike in passenger fare and goods tariff. She has symbolically reduced tariff in some goods such as food grain. She has announced free tickets in Sleeper and 3AC for cancer patients.


Mamta Banerjee has proposed several trains in various routes, some new trains including 10 of "Duronto". She has also proposed construction of some new railway tracks. She has also announced that some of the single lines will be converted into double lines.

She has proposed some welfare schemes for railway staff but nothing is announced about catering system reform.

Business communities, Industries and common people at large are happy with this railway budget.
Pranab Mukherjee, Finance Minister of India will propose general budget for year 2010 on February 26, 2010 for the central government of India.

It is worth noted that India is developing with second highest growth rate in the world. It is expected that Indian economy will be very strong in few years. It has capacity to bail out even American economy. Indian Railways has huge contribution, directly or indirectly in Indian economy.

Indian Government announced fertilizer policy before budget

Central government of India have announced their new fertilizer policy today on February 18, 2010. Government have allowed fertilizer companies to hike Urea price by 10 percent. Price hike will be effected from April 1, 2010. This is a pre-budget announcement. Budget of central government of India for year 2010-11 will come on February 28,  2010.

Urea price will rise to Rs.5310 from present 4810. Government have also allowed the companies to decide their own prices for nutrient grade fertilizers. This announcement is aiming towards fresh investment in fertilizer industry.

Share prices of some fertilizer companies such as RFC, National fertilizers, Nagarjun fertilizers, Chambal fertilizers have surged today by approximately 2 percent on an average.

However, analysts say hike in price of urea will not benefit the fertilizer companies because Government will reduce subsidy by 10 percent. Government can save 13 billion on subsidy bills. It will neutralize the positive effect on fertilizer companies. Moreover, it will affect the farmers negatively and will fuel to price hike in agricultural products.

Chinese New Year

Today, the February 14, 2010 is Chinese New Year day. Gulabi Nagar Vichar Manch organized a forum discussion on this topic Chinese New Year today.

Yashwant Golechha, chief speaker told that Chinese have twelve year cycles of time named on different animals. This year is referred as Tiger year in China. Chinese calendar is a lunar calendar whereas English or Gregorian calendar is a solar calendar. Therefore, Chinese New year days vary in different years in Gregorian calendar. Chinese people will celebrate fifteen days long New Year festival in traditional way. Most of the business, industries even government offices will be kept close during these days for eight days.

Jyoti Kothari told that there are lot of similarities between India and China. Chinese sweep clean their houses in hope of sweeping out ill luck and incoming good fortune just like Indians do in Diwali. He also told that Chinese people eat vegetarian food on the first and eighth days of the ceremony. They have a twelve year cycle as Indians have 30 years cycle in their Samvatsar calendars.

Ashok Barhat, Rampal Pareek, Mamta Kothari and Mirza Habib Baig "Paras" also participated in the discussion.

Narendra Shekhawat has presided over the meeting. Jyoti Kothari conducted the forum discussion and Pradip Chouhan offered vote of thanks. The meeting came to an end with observing two minutes silence to pay condolence to the victims of Pune bomb blast last night.
