Standard vocabulary in Ayurveda

Standard vocabulary in Ayurveda

National Institute of Ayurveda (NIA) Jaipur
National Institute of Ayurveda (NIA) has taken initiative to prepare a standard (common) vocabulary of the diseases. Different Ayurvedic institutes and medical practitioners at different places use different words for the same disease. A standard vocabulary will solve the problem. Jaipur will host a 3 days' workshop soon and more than fifty specialists will discuss the topic to frame a common vocabulary.

Professor Sharma, Director, NIA, Jodhpur told that Human Resource Development ministry has been supporting the project and scientific and technical vocabulary department will review the project.

It is worth noted that Ayurveda is the oldest and most scientific methodology of treating ailments. Sushruta Samhita and Charaka Samhita are among the oldest medical texts. However, Allopathy has replaced all other methodologies since the 19th century and Ayurveda- along with other therapies, is considered as alternate therapies. Moreover, whenever, we think of a medical professional we think and search of an allopathic doctor or surgeon.

A serious effort is required to revive the technique of Ayurveda. Creating a standard vocabulary is a welcome step towards the same.
